San Francisco Korean American Museum
Volunteer Program

The SF Korean American History Museum has prepared a unique volunteer program to address the limited opportunities for youth to volunteer within the community. The museum aims to create a system where individuals can grow personally through volunteering and contribute to society, becoming a source of hope and courage for both the mainstream society and the Korean community, as well as other communities.
It is called Dosan

"Dosan" is the pen name of Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, a prominent nationalist, educator, and independence activist. The name "Dosan" means "distant island." It is said that Ahn chose this name after looking at Hawaii from the ship when he first sailed to America in 1902, and the island appeared like a large mountain from afar. The name reflects his nationalist passion, hope, and his struggle for independence. It also carries the meaning of becoming someone who inspires hope and courage.
